Why are Soy Candles better than Paraffin Candles?

As candle lovers we ventured into the candle industry to find an alternative to paraffin candles. Our goal and purpose was to offer a candle that lasted longer, smelled great from start to finish and was a healthier alternative to paraffin. After months of research, experimenting and starting a class, I decided to go all natural, soy, palm and bees wax.

To start, what are the Benefits of Soy Candles?

Clean Burning: Soy candles are non-toxic and will burn cleaner and last longer than traditional petroleum paraffin candles.

Burns and Lasts Longer. Soy wax candles burn cooler than paraffin candles and at a lower temperature which will allow soy candles to retain their scent for the life of the candle and last much longer.

Biodegradable:  Since soy wax is made from soybeans it is biodegradable and water-soluble which means soy candle wax is also easier to remove from materials such as carpet than paraffin wax.

Healthier: Candles made with 100% soy wax do not release the petroleum-based pollutants that paraffin candles do which means cleaner air for you, your family and your pets to breath.

Made/Grown in the US: Choosing soy candles does help local farmers: Soy wax comes from farmer’s right here in the United States this helps the U.S. economy.

What is palm wax?

Palm wax is an ecologically renewable product made from wax distilled from the leaves of palm trees grown in Malaysia.

What are the benefits of palm wax?

Palm oil is a renewable resource and, like soy oil, the use of palm oil to make candles benefits the farmers who grow and harvest the palm leaves used in the production of the wax. Palm wax candles are very hard, smooth and dry) and thus can withstand summer heat without bending or melting and doesn’t have an "oily" feel...

.Do you use additives?

No, unless you consider natural beeswax or palm wax an additive. I do not add UV Protection and choose wax without additives.

 Are your candles "all natural"?

Yes and No. The wax is. I use high quality fragrance oil or essential oils to scent my candles, fragrance oils are partially synthetic, as more scents become phthalate-free, I will be focusing those scents. I use Essential oils do not throw a scent as well as fragrance oils do but to be an Aromatherapy Candles, a candle has be scented to be a true 100% essential oil.

What is scent throw?

The "scent throw" is the capacity in which the candles fragrance travels throughout the space and scents the room. The longer your soy candle is allowed to cure, that is, to set after it's poured before its first burning, the stronger it will throw scent. This is part of the reason; I am creating batches now, in preparation for the Tarpon Sunday Morning Market re-opening.

What kind of wicks to you use?

All of my candles are made with cotton wicks, soaked in vegetable oil. None of my candles contain metal, zinc, or lead of any kind. Starting in May, I have switched to a more robust wick. I am seeking perfection, I want no tunneling.

Are your candles "Triple Scented"?

There is no such thing - "Triple Scented" is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. I don't like gimmicks or misleading statements. Candle wax will only hold so much scent. No matter what the blend there is a maximum. Too much fragrance oil will not "soak up" in the wax, but rather rise to the top and make the entire candle (not just the wick) flammable. Very dangerous! So no, my candles are not "triple scented", but they do have the maximum amount of scent possible!

I want to order a soy candle, but you do not have the scent I like.

I have built this business by taking requests. Special orders do not upset us. What scent? Under newsletters I do have a list of scents, but you are not limited to that. What color? Under newsletters I have a color chart. What type? Tart, Votive, Pillar, Jar, Container

Why do some candles burn uneven or "tunnel"?

Soy candles will burn all the way and not "tunnel” that is if you burn them right. The first time the candle is lit, be sure to burn it for at least 2-3 hours, or until the wax is melted all the way across the jar.  Shifting to a more robust wick should help to prevent tunneling. I’ve tested a couple, I am happy with the results.

How do I get the longest burn from my candle?

To get the best burn from both pillar and container candles, burn the candle long enough the first time you light it so a wax pool forms that covers almost the entire top of the candle. With pillar candles you need to leave a rim of about 1/8". With container or jar candles the initial burn should create a burn pool that covers the entire surface of the jar. Extinguish the candle when it reaches this point. Depending on the diameter of the candle or container, the initial burn time may be anywhere from 1 hour up to 5 or 6 hours. Subsequently you should plan to burn the candle until it reaches the ″memory pool″ you created with the first burn.

Burn safely please, candle safety. Why, because I care.
